Beyond “I Love Flowers”: My Why, My Process, and What You Can Expect

If you’ve spent even a few minutes planning a wedding, you’ve probably seen a lot of florists say the same thing: “I just love flowers!” And of course, I do too—how could I not? But for me, floral design has never been just about pretty blooms. It’s about storytelling. It’s about creating a feeling. And it’s about honoring a moment that will live in your memory forever.

My Approach: Rooted in Nature and Feeling

Every design starts with what’s already around us—the seasons, the light, the natural textures of Northern Michigan. I’m inspired by the way wild things grow, and I love weaving in local, seasonal elements that feel effortlessly beautiful and true to the time and place. But more than that, I want to understand you—what feeling do you want your flowers to evoke? What kinds of images or memories are you drawn to? I pay close attention to the little things: the why behind what you like, the energy you want your guests to feel, the mood you want to set. My job is to translate all of that into a floral vision that’s layered, unexpected, and deeply personal.

The Process: Intentional, Local, and Collaborative

I live and work right here in Northern Michigan, and I care deeply about this place. Over the years, I’ve built strong relationships with local planners, venues, and vendors—not just because it makes things run smoothly (though it absolutely does), but because I believe weddings are most successful when everyone is working together with care and intention. I’m hands-on and detail-driven. I show up early, stay late, and always have a plan B (and C). If the weather turns or something shifts, I’m ready. Flexibility is part of the job, and I thrive in that creative flow.

What Clients Say: Above + Beyond

One of the things I hear most from clients is that I go above and beyond—and honestly, that means everything to me. I want you to feel supported, heard, and completely wowed by the final result. I care deeply, and I’m easy to work with (truly). Being local means I know the backroads, the best farmers, and pretty much everyone in the wedding industry here. One of my growers can literally hear the reception music from her porch—that’s how close-knit our community is.

The Work: Artful, Emotional, Wildly You

I’m known for creating floral designs that feel naturalistic and artful—where colors hum together and textures tell a story. I’m obsessed with thoughtful color palettes, unexpected pairings, and flowers that feel like they were always meant to be in your hands or on that table. I choose local blooms whenever possible—not just because it’s more sustainable, but because it creates a sense of place you can actually feel. And honestly? One of my favorite moments is arriving on your wedding day, greeting the other vendors, and feeling the shared excitement as we bring it all to life. There’s nothing like it.

So yes—I love flowers. But more than that, I love using them to tell your story.

Warmly,
Rory

At the heart of it all, I care— deeply . About the people I work with, the moments I help create, and the magic we build together. My secret sauce? Equal parts heart, hustle, and the belief that flowers should absolutely make you feel something—ideally to the point of happy tears.
